New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins: Yankees won the regular season series 7-0.

The Minnesota Twins were the first team to come back from a three-game deficit with only four games left in the season when they defeated the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central tiebreak game last night 6-5 in 12 innings. Now they get to face the Yankees, a team they have not beaten in seven tries this season.

Game one is in New York today at 6:07 p.m. on TBS. C.C. Sabathia (19-8, 3.37 ERA) takes the ball for the Yankees and the Twins will counter with rookie Brian Duensing (5-2, 3.46 ERA).

Game two, which is on Friday, will showcase A.J. Burnett (13-9, 4:04 ERA) against Nick Blackburn (11-11, 4.03 ERA). Andy Pettitte (14-8, 4.16 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees and former Yankee Carl Pavano (14-12, 5.10 ERA) will go for the Twins once the series shifts to the Metrodome in Minneapolis for game three.

Minnesota will go with Scott Baker (15-9, 4.37 ERA) in game four if necessary, while New York has yet to name a probable starter.

Both teams have solid bullpens, led by their closers. The Twins have Joe Nathan, who saved 47 games in 2009 which was good for second in the majors. The Yankees of course have Mariano Rivera, who had 44 saves and is considered the best closer the game has seen.

The Twins offense is led by Joe Mauer, who led the majors with a .365 average. Other key contributors will be Justin Morneau, Denard Span, Jason Kubel, Orlando Cabrera and Michael Cuddyer.

It wasn’t any of these players who had the big hit to win the game against the Tigers yesterday though. That was Alexi Casilla, who had the walk-off hit.

The Yankees lineup is feared from top to bottom and is led by the captain, Derek Jeter, who hit .334 in the regular season. Robinson Cano hit .320 and will be a key to the offense as well as Mark Teixeira, who led the AL with 122 RBI’s. Never forget about Alex Rodriguez, who will be determined to have postseason success this season.

Hideki Matsui, Johnny Damon, Nick Swisher, Jorge Posada and Melky Cabrera will also be important contributors.

My Prediction: Yankees in 4. Twins win one last game in the Metrodome before it closes but the Yankees ruin the party in game four.
