Philadelphia Phillies vs. Colorado Rockies: Phillies won the regular season series 4-2. Game one of the best-of-five is in Philadelphia Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 2:37 p.m. on TBS. The defending World Series Champions will be looking to repeat but first they need to get by the Rockies, who two years ago swept the Phillies in the NLDS. Cliff Lee (14-13, 3.22 ERA) has been chosen by Charlie Manuel to take the mound for Philadelphia against Ubaldo Jimenez (15-12, 3.47 ERA) in game one. Cole Hamels (10-11, 4.32 ERA) has not been as good in the regular season as he was last year, but he will get the nod in game two. He will be looking to regain his postseason dominance of one year ago. Aaron Cook (11-6, 4.11 ERA) will be called upon to pitch for Colorado on Thursday. The series will switch to Denver for game three on Saturday and Jason Hammel (10-8, 4.33 ERA) will take the mound for the Rockies. The Phillies have yet to name a game three starter. It could be either Joe Blanton, rookie J.A. Happ or Pedro Martinez. Blanton or Happ are the best bets unless they are used out of the bullpen in game one or two, then Martinez could be called upon. If necessary, the game four starter for Colorado will be Jason Marquis (15-13, 4.04 ERA). Once again it is not clear who the Phillies would send to the hill. A big storyline in this series will be the Philadelphia bullpen, which was so great on the team’s way to the World Series in 2008. Brad Lidge has struggled all season and was not closing games to end the season. Will he be back in the closer role or will Manuel go with someone else? Ryan Madson could get the call to close games if the Phillies decide to not go with Lidge. Brett Myers, who is coming off an injury, will also figure heavily in as a member of the Phillies bullpen, along with lefty Scott Eyre. The Rockies have a solid finisher in Houston Street, who saved 35 of 37 chances this season. Franklin Morales, Jose Contreras, Matt Daley and Rafael Bettencourt will be the links to Street. As for hitting the Phillies have one of the most feared lineups in baseball. Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorinio, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez, Jason Werth, Pedro Feliz, and Carlos Ruiz should be the starters. For Colorado, the projected game one lineup is Dexter Fowler, Seth Smith, Todd Helton, Troy Tulowitzki, Brad Hawpe, Yorvit Torrealba, Garrett Atkins and Clint Barmes. My Prediction: Phillies in 5. Phillies bullpen blows two games but the offense comes alive at home in game five to nail it down.
