Los Angeles - Free Throws and layups. Those are the two most crucial shots in basketball. Especially late in games. The Orlando Magic had an opportunity to steal a game in Los Angeles and even the NBA Finals at a game apiece. However, the final score showed 101-96 in favor of the Lakers. This could have been different. Had the Magic not missed five consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter, they would have won the game. Had Courtney Lee not missed two layups in the final 10 seconds with the score tied, they would have won the game. All for not. The Magic are down 2-0. The good news for Orlando is that the next three games will be at home. On the contrary, only the 2004 Detroit Pistons have won all three home playoff games since the Finals switched to the 2-3-2 format. If the Magic have any chance of winning this series, they most win all three home games. A tall task indeed. A good place to start would be at the free throw line. An even better place to finish would be by making layups. One adjustment Stan Van Gundy must make in the next game is to have a point guard on the floor in the fourth quarter. Orlando's ball movement was horrible down the stretch. You can't win games by having guys dribble out the shot clock and jack up a contested 3. Yet, at this point, the most disheartening thought for Orlando is knowing they have to beat Kobe Bryant four times in the next five games. Nearly impossible. Bryant is too great of player to let his team lose a series after being up two games to none.
