The No. 14 Penn State Nittany Lions scored 28 third quarter points to blow open a game against Michigan State that was tied at seven at halftime. The Nittany Lions won 42-14 and kept themselves in the BCS discussion for now. Penn State (10-2, 6-2) racked up 512 yards of total offense in the game. The Spartans looked to have Penn State where they wanted but their defense could not stop the Nittany Lions in the third quarter. Michigan State (6-6, 4-4) gave up four touchdowns on Penn State's five third quarter possesions. Darryl Clark had a good game, going 19-27 for 310 yards and four touchdowns. Freshman WR Curtis Drake stepped up in the absence of Chaz Powell, who was out with a shoulder injury. Drake threw a touchdown pass to Andrew Quarless to make the score 14-7. Drake also ran once for 18 yards and caught two passes for 22 yards. Quarless caught four passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns and Graham Zug caught four passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Evan Royster went over 1,000 rushing yards for the second straight season with his 114 yard day that came on 13 carries. Kirk Cousins threw two costly interceptions and was 16-28 for 155 yards and one touchdown for the Spartans. Sean Lee and Nick Sukay intercepted balls for Penn State and Navarro Bowman led the Nittany Lions defense with 10 tackles, 3.5 which were for loss. Both teams will now wait on the bowl selection process to see when their next game will be. Penn State will sit back and watch the next two weeks of football and when the dust settles they hope they will find themselves in a BCS bowl game. |
