Chris Osgood recorded his 50th career shutout with 29 saves, and a little help from the posts behind him, leading the Red Wings to a 2-0 victory against the Boston Bruins. Tomas Holmstrom and Henrik Zetterberg scored for the Wings in the first period to give Osgood his 394th career victory. The Bruins have not scored in almost 133 minutes of game time, and were shut out in consecutive games for the first time since March of 2007. Tim Thomas made 24 saves in the loss but it was not enough to keep the struggling Bruins in the game. This was expected to be a low scoring game with both teams dealing with injuries and the flu bug. Detroit was missing Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula, 46 goals combined last season, while the Bruins have Marc Savard and Milan Lucic, 52 combined goals last year, out for extended periods of the season. The Bruins have now fallen below the .500 mark for the season, but are heading home with five of the next six games played in Boston. Detroit now has five of their next seven games at Joe Louis Arena, and now trails the Chicago Blackhawks by two points for the Central Division lead. |
