In Brett Favre’s, and Ryan Longwell’s, return to Lambeau Field looked like it was going to be a blowout in the first half. The Packers made a surge in the second half to make the game interesting, but ultimately lost to the Vikings 38-26. Favre passed for 224 yards with 4 touchdowns against his former team and fans that greeted him with boos, jeers and the occasional cheer as he entered the stadium in an unfamiliar purple helmet. The Packers were able to keep All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson in check, allowing only 97 yards and one touchdown. Percy Harvin was the difference maker for the Vikings returning five kicks for 175 yards to give Minnesota great field position all game. Aaron Rodgers passed for 287 yards with three touchdowns in the game, but the Packers inability to keep him on his feet was evident again as he was sacked six times and losing 29 yards. Running back Ryan Grant was ineffective with only 30 yards on 10 carries in the game, second on the team to Rodgers with 52 yards on five carries. Green Bay started off the scoring with a Mason Crosby field goal but Minnesota then scored 24 straight points to take a commanding 24-3 lead with 13:08 remaining in the third quarter. The Packers offense started scoring with another Crosby field goal, followed by two Rodgers touchdown passes to tight end Spencer Havner of 16 and five yards to end the third quarter with a 24-20 lead for Minnesota. Harvin returned the ensuing kickoff 48 yards to the Green Bay 38 to set up a Favre touchdown pass to regain the momentum for the Vikings. On the next drive Rodgers threw his second touchdown pass to Havner to bring Green Bay within five points after a missed two-point conversion made the score 31-26, but the Packers would not get any closer. |
