The last time the No. 13 Penn State Nittany Lions won in Michigan Stadium was 1996, but all of that changed on Saturday when the Nittany Lions dominated a soggy game and beat the Michigan Wolverines 35-10. The Wolverines took the opening drive and went 70 yards before the Penn State defense adjusted. Brandon Minor capped it with a 1-yard touchdown run, putting Michigan up 7-0. Penn State (7-1, 3-1) responded on their first possession with a 63 yard drive that ended with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Darryl Clark to Graham Zug. Colin Wagner’s 34-yard field goal with 3:58 left in the first quarter gave the Nittany Lions the lead 10-7, and they never looked back. Zug caught two more touchdown passes later in the game from Clark and Andrew Quarless also caught a 60-yard deep ball for a touchdown. On the day, Clark was 16-27 for 230 yards and four touchdowns. He did not throw an interception and Penn State did not turn the ball over a single time. The same couldn’t be said of Michigan (5-3, 1-3) who turned it over four times. The Wolverines had the best offense in the Big Ten coming in, but were held to 250 total yards and 10 points. Michigan was 8th in the nation in rushing coming in, averaging 235 yards per game, but they only managed 110 yards against Penn State’s stout rush defense. Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson struggled to direct the offense. Forcier was 13-30 for 140 yards and one interception. He also rushed 14 times for 10 yards. Robinson was 0-2 passing with one interception and rushed four times for 20 yards. Navarro Bowman led the Nittany Lions with 11 tackles and he had a sack and an interception. Josh Hull added 10 tackles, 2.5 for loss, and one sack. Sean Lee played on a limited number of downs, as he is still trying to overcome a knee injury. Evan Royster rushed 20 times for 100 yards for Penn State to lead the ground attack that went for 166 yards. Derek Moye made six catches for 53 yards, Zug had five receptions for 59 yards and three touchdowns, and Quarless had two catches for 91 yards and one touchdown. Penn State stays on the road to take on Northwestern next Saturday and Michigan travels to Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini. |
