Detroit Tigers vs Milwaukee Brewers >> Tigers hope to continue winning ways
Written by Robert Stone - June 20, 2009

Today’s matchup between the Tigers and Brewers features a rookie pitcher making his major league debut against a struggling veteran. The Tigers are sending Alfredo Figaro to the mound who is 5-2 with a 4.10 ERA in his 11 starts for Double-A Erie SeaWolves. Figaro is taking Dontrelle Willis’s spot in the rotation after Willis was placed on the disabled list on Tuesday.

The Brewers are countering with Dave Bush, who is 3-3 on the season with a 5.31 ERA on the season, but has been struggling recently. Bush is 0-3 with an ERA of 8.64 in his last five starts, including allowing a career high eight runs in 3.2 innings against the Indians in his last start.

Prince Fielder continued his hot hitting ways as he hit a three run homer in Friday night’s loss to the Tigers, but it will be up to his teammates to help him if the Brewers are to win today. The Brewers will be without centerfielder Mike Cameron, who is serving a one-game suspension for making contact with an umpire. Power hitter Ryan Braun is struggling after being forced to leave the game on Wednesday against the Indians and went 0-4 against the Tigers on Friday.

Detroit will hope that Figaro can give them a decent outing, which will give them a good chance today of picking up their third victory in a row. If Figaro can outpitch Bush today, expect a Tigers victory that should have a lot of scoring.
