Even a two hour rain delay could not cool Marcus Thames. He hit a two run homer in the second inning and another two run home run in seventh after the rain delay leading the Tigers to a 10-4 victory in seven innings. Zach Miner (4-1) picked up the victory coming in after the rain delay to relieve starter Armando Galarraga. Miner went 2.1 innings allowing only one hit and one walk with three strike outs. Galarraga’s struggles continue as he goes four innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and one strikeout. Braden Looper (5-4) picked up the loss for the Brewers after going 3.2 innings giving up seven runs on eight hits and four strikeouts. Slugger Prince Fielder went 2-4 on the night with a three run home run in the first inning off of Galarraga. Miguel Cabrera and Curtis Granderson also homered for the Tigers in a game that also had a first in Major League history. This was the first game that instant replay was used twice in one game, overturning the call on the field both times. In the third inning Cabrera hit a ball to left field and appeared to hit the top of the fence, but upon further review it was ruled a home run that tied the score at three. Then in the fourth, Dusty Ryan thought he hit his first home run of the year to left field, but after review it was ruled as a run scoring double to tie the game at four. |
