Game one of the weekend series between the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers features a matchup of two struggling pitchers. Braden Looper of the Brewers comes into the game with a 5-3 record and an ERA of 4.62, but he has not won a start since May 29th. Looper and the Brewers will have their hands full trying to keep power hitting Miguel Cabrera off the bases in this series. Cabrera went 5-11 with one home run and two RBI’s in the past three game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. In the 30 games that Cabrera has faced the Brewers, he has 32 hits but 33 strikeouts, so the Brewers will hope to keep him off the score sheet. The Tigers counter with Armando Galarraga who is currently 3-7 and a 5.56 ERA. Galarraga, a 13 game winner last year, has lost his past seven decisions and has not won since April 26th. Galarraga and the rest of the Tigers pitching staff will try and find a way to contain hot hitting Prince Fielder, son of Tigers great Cecil. Fielder went 6-11 with one home run and eight RBI’s in the Brewers three game sweep of the Cleveland Indians. For his career against the Tigers, Fielder is only hitting .200 with one home run and one RBI, so Detroit will hope to build on their success from the past. Expect a high scoring ball game with Galarraga and Looper struggling on the mound. If Cabrera or Fielder has a big game, their team should win game one of this series. |
