DETROIT, M.I. -- Today, the Detroit Tigers will look to rally back versus the Los Angeles Angels after Ervin Santana allowed just six hits and one run in 8 2/3 innings pitched. The result: a 2-1 victory for the Angeles. Santana is now 6-2 all-time against the Tigers. AL Central-leading Detroit (28-25) will continue to battled it out today with the Angels (28-25). It's been 20 months since Kelvim Escobar took the mound for Mike Scioscia's Anaheim team. Today will be his first start of the 2009 season and he brings with him a 4.15 all-time ERA. Escobar had shoulder surgery, but in 2007, he had a career year. That year, Escobar went a career-best 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA in 30 games pitched. But in late March of 2008 he tore his labrom. "After a lengthy recovery, Escobar will pitch in the majors for the first time since losing to Boston in Game 2 of the AL division series on Oct. 5, 2007," (ESPN.com). Meanwhile, Edwin Jackson will take the mound for the struggling Tigers who have lost four in a row including six of eight. Jackson (5-3, 2.30) has been the second best pitcher on the roster next to the ace Justin Verlander for the Tigers (28-25). In his last five starts, Jackson has a 4-1 record to go along with his 1.49 ERA. Although Comerica Park is not necessarily a hitters park, the Tigers will need to out hit the Angels in this if they want to win. Yes, Jackson is on the mound. But the Tigers have struggled to score. Last eight games: 1,2,6,3,1,5,3,1. Their inconsistency has hurt them significantly. The game's first pitch will be thrown out at 7:05 p.m. ET.
