DETROIT, M.I. -- Last, Boston Read Sox ace, Josh Beckett threw a no hitter through seven and a half innings before the Detroit Tigers batted five runs in the eighth inning. But the five runs would not be enough after Boston knocked in six themselves in the eighth giving the Sox a 10-5 win. Today, the pitching was nothing special, but Jason Bay delivered as he continues to have success. Bay's bases-loaded double triggered a six-run third inning completing the Sox three-game sweep over Detroit with a 6-3 victory earlier today. Tim Wakefield (7-3) got the win for the Sox, while Dontrelle Willis (1-3) struggled to be in top form. Willis gave up six runs in the third and that prevailed to a victory for "The Nation." Wakefield gave up three runs and five hits in 6 2-3 innings. Meanwhile, "the legend" himself," Jonathan Papelbon got his 14th save of the season. The Tigers will begin a three-game series tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Angels. Probable starters: Ervin Santana vs. Justin Verlander. Meanwhile, Boston will remain in the top slot in the American League East. The Sox will go home to begin a series verse the first place AL West Texas Rangers. Probable Starters for tomorrow night's game: Kevin Milwood vs. Brad Penny. First pitch for both of these games will be thrown out at 7:05 p.m. ET. |
