A storied rivalry will take place in the world's most famous arena tonight- Madison Square Garden. The 7th seeded West Virginia Mountaineers (22-10, 10-8) will have one more shot at beating the number two rated and second seeded Pittsburgh Panthers (28-3, 13-3). Both teams played each other twice this season. The Panthers won both games (79-67 & 70-59). The Mountaineers did slow first-team All-Big East player, DuJuan Blair, to just 8 points and 9 rebounds last time the two met (Feb. 9), but they have yet to slow down Sam Young. Young has combined for 42 points and 11 rebounds verse the Mountaineers. Pitt (28-3) has never had trouble dominating in New York City in recent years. The Panthers have advanced to the Big East Tournament Finals seven of the last eight years, winning two titles in that run. West Virginia (22-10), however, is a team looking to improve their seeding for the upcoming madness. WVU's Alex Ruoff scored 25 points while the team out rebounded Notre Dame 52-32 in their 74-62 win. If the Mountaineers are going to win this game, they will have to find a way to score against the well-rested Panther team. The Panthers allow just 63 points per game as a defense. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers allow just 61. Both teams rely on their defense but if you have watched Pittsburgh this year, you know how quickly things can get out of hand. The winner of this game will matchup against either the third-seeded Connecticut Huskies or sixth-seeded Syracuse Orangeman. Those two teams will play tonight about 25 minutes after the WVU Pitt game which is set to tipoff at 7 p.m.. |
