Pittsburgh Penguins vs Washington Capitals >> 2 Goliath's Collide Once Again
Written by Jamie McCracken - April 29, 2009

WASHINGTON D.C. -- Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin will set the tone Saturday afternoon as the fourth seeded Pittsburgh Penguins will face-off against the two seeded Washington Capitols, who had to overcome a 3-1 series deficit to the New York Rangers in the first round.

This series will create more buzz and media attention than anything else in the (diluted) National Hockey League.

The Penguins are coming off a dramatic six-game series with the Philadelphia Flyers. Meanwhile, the Capitols took (once again) seven games for them to advance to the second round of the precious Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Caps, Tom Poti, had six points in the first round including his fabulous four-point night in a must-win sixth game verse the Rangers. The Pens Evgeni Malkin had four multi-point games in the opening round verse the Flyers, yet Jordan Staal had zero goals in the first round.

*The Matchup

Sidney Crosby vs. Alex Ovechkin

A pure grudge match between the two "pure" stars of the the NHL. The two are the pure example of why ice hockey is still popular in the United States. They are what make this series more compelling than any other taking place. Unlike the last time the two met, the stakes are much higher. The two feast on the bright lights so lets drop the curtain... there's ice hockey to play.
