The decision by LeBron James not to re-sign with his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers made him public enemy number one in Cleveland. Cavs fans understandably didn’t take LeBron’s decision to leave for Miami well. Instead of throwing their LeBron James jerseys in a trash can or in the back of a closet, Cleveland fans were seen setting James jersey on fire as a way of getting rid of it. Before Cavalier fans wanted to see nothing more than for LeBron to win multiple NBA Championships, now they wish only bad luck and curses of Chicago Cubs proportions on the former “King” of Cleveland.

Even Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert predicted that a curse would haunt LeBron James in Miami.

"The self-declared former 'King' will be taking the 'curse' with him down south," Gilbert wrote. "And until he does 'right' by Cleveland and Ohio, James [and the town where he plays] will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma."

As if promises of curses and bad karma weren’t enough Gilbert also spoke of what he thought of LeBron James performance in the 2010 Eastern Conference Semi-finals against the Boston Celtics.

"He quit," Gilbert said. "Not just in Game 5, but in Games 2, 4 and 6. Watch the tape. The Boston series was unlike anything in the history of sports for a superstar."

When LeBron James was asked what he thought of Gilbert’s comments, James refused to get into a war of words with the Cavaliers owner. James understandably stayed very busy upon his arriving into Miami by meeting Heat fans and recruiting more free agents to sign with Miami. It seemed as though a shouting match with Gilbert just wasn’t high enough on James list of priorities.

While LeBron had nothing to say, James new teammate Dwayne Wade maintained that any idea that LeBron is a quitter is not true.

"I don't see where you can get where he quit," Wade said. "He just had one bad game. It happens. Kobe had a bad game in the Finals. They won. It didn't matter. LeBron's teammates didn't help him out that game and it made the way he played even worse. But he's not a quitter. He didn't quit."

The lack of support LeBron got from his teammates never helped in the playoffs and was one of the main reasons he ultimately left Cleveland. It is good to see somebody especially one of James new teammates finally get his back after everything that was said by Gilbert. I was not a fan of LeBron James one hour television special and him reportedly keeping Cleveland out of the loop during the free agency process. The burning of jerseys and outrage by fans is expected, what isn’t expected is such harsh words being spoken by the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Obviously, LeBron James never won a title for him hometown of Cleveland, but talk of curses and acquisitions of quitting are over the top. Hopefully Wade’s rebuttal of Gilbert’s comments marks the end of this dispute.
