Many people scoffed at the idea that three players who are as talented as LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh are would ever team up to play for one team together.

"I'll believe it when I see it," Louisville coach Rick Pitino said of the idea that James, Bosh, and Wade would all play for the Miami Heat next season.

Just recently though, LeBron James finished what Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh started yesterday and committed to playing as part of a trio that have 17 All-Star game appearances between them.
In the end the opportunity to team up with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami was too much to resist for James. The lure of winning a string of championships with the Heat trumped his loyalty to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers, the bright lights of the Big Apple, or the ability to work for Jay-Z and Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov in New Jersey.

In a league that defines greatness by how many championships a player has won, James went to the place where he would have a team equipped not only to win in the regular season but in the postseason as well. Cleveland made efforts to increase the talent around LeBron James by bringing in free agents such as Antawn Jamison and Shaquille O’ Neal; they were also very close to bringing Chris Bosh on board via a trade during free agency. When it came down to the end though Cleveland couldn’t match what Miami was offering James.

As a member of the Heat next season, opposing teams will not be able to focus solely on shutting down LeBron and sagging off everyone else. No, I don’t think any team would dare sagging off on two players that are as talented as Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade. These three players are so talented that their commitment to the Heat takes Miami from a fringe playoff team to the favorite to win the Eastern Conference.
When James was asked what was his motivating factor for choosing Miami he simply said "winning is a huge thing for me."

In 2008 the Boston Celtics brought in Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett to join team star Paul Pierce. Pierce, Garnett, and Allen agreed to play together in Boston for one reason to win a championship. Despite their numerous individual accomplishments (All Star appearances and All-NBA teams) none of the three players ever won a championship individually. Each one of the three had previously carried the load largely on their own before and therefore they were never able to win a title. Yet, when they came together for the Celtics and played as a team they won an NBA Championship in 2008.

Flash forward to 2010 and Wade, Bosh, and James are making the same pact. James and Bosh have yet to win a title, while Dwayne Wade won his only title in 2004. The only difference is that this collection of players is more talented than even what Boston brought in 2008. James, Wade, and Bosh need to follow the blueprint Allen, Garnett, and Pierce used to win a title in 2008; play selfless team basketball and surrender their egos. If these three players can do that then there is no limit to what they can accomplish together.
