Florida Marlins trying to capitalize on Halladay's perfect game - 05/31/2010 (115 views)
When you attend a sporting event where something truly amazing happens odds are you are not going to throw your ticket stub in the trash can immediately after leaving the stadium. No, you keep the ticket or other piece of memorabilia that you gathered at the game to show to others and to be a reminder of the moment you saw greatness occur on the playing field. I would be willing to bet that a good portion of the 25,000 fans that attended Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay’s perfect game against the Florida Marlins last Saturday night at Sun Life Stadium are still holding on to their ticket stubs. The Marlins though are making sure that fans can still have something to remember that historic night by even if they did not make it out to the ballpark. The Florida Marlins will begin selling unused tickets to the game in which Hallady threw the perfect game. The tickets will be sold at face value and will go on sale on Tuesday. Halladay’s perfect game was the 20th in major league history and the second perfect game so far this season. The Oakland Athletics Dallas Braden threw his perfect game on May 9th against the Tampa Bay Rays. The reaction to this story has been mixed so far. Some have called it capitalism while others simply think of it as a dumb gimmick. I wouldn’t be surprised if MLB didn’t enact a rule about franchises selling used tickets in the future as a result of this. Personally I could never see myself buying a ticket to a sporting event that already took place even if something historic occurred. I would imagine though that there are plenty of collectors and baseball fans who will be willing to pay face value for one of these tickets though.
