Donovan McNabb has thrown for 32,873 yards and 216 touchdown passes in his career yet his former wide receivers, Philadelphia Eagles fans, and Rush Limbaugh have not always had the kindest words to say about McNabb.
It looks like you can now add Eagles wide receiver Desean Jackson to the list of those who have taken shots at Donovan. Jackson told the Sporting News that he was “very happy with the decision” to trade Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins.
He also told the Sporting News that he is not losing any sleep over Donovan not being in the huddle next season for the Eagles.
"I don't think we lost anything, even with McNabb being gone." Jackson said.
McNabb responded to Jackson’s comments by saying that is just how things go when you leave somewhere and go to a different team.
"It's so wild when people get to talking when you're not there, but when you're there everybody loves you," McNabb said.
Desean Jackson has flourished in his two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles with Donovan McNabb under center. The former California Golden Bear has caught 125 passes for 2079 yards and 11 touchdowns during his time in Philadelphia. He will now rely on Donovan’s former backup, fourth year player Kevin Kolb to get him the ball.
It is obvious that McNabb’s former Philadelphia teammates will not have glowing things to say about Donovan now that he is the quarterback for the division rival Washington Redskins. In the end though McNabb deserves a little more respect from his former teammates and the Philly faithful. He consistently took the Eagles to the playoffs, not to mention was instrumental in guiding them to a Superbowl appearance. It would be different if Philadelphia had hall of fame quarterbacks running that offense before McNabb, but you can’t tell me that Bubby Brister and Ty Detmer were more capable than McNabb.
I know Donovan will not lose any sleep over Desean Jackson’s comments yet still it is sad to see such a great player consistently getting thrown under the bus. He is a six time pro bowler yet statements about him have been made such as the Eagles will be better off without him, he tires in big games such as the Superbowl, and the media wants to see him succeed. I wish the best for Kevin Kolb in his time as the starting quarterback for Philadelphia, but Donovan McNabb was the face of the Philadelphia Eagles and should not be disregarded so quickly as an easily expendable player.
