Did anybody see Dayton beat North Carolina in the NIT Championship on Thursday? Of course not, IT’S THE NIT.

My question is: if the NCAA tournament expands to 96 teams, as it seems that it will, what kind of teams will end up playing in the NIT Championship in the future? Northeast Idaho St. vs. Southern Maine? University of Alaska-Juno vs. Middle Western Valley State? Will Northwestern finally win something?

Sadly, these are all fairly realistic possibilities. I dread a world in which NIT-worthy teams are somehow slumming along in the NCAA tournament, ruining the quality of play and jabbing a stick in the spokes of my favorite sporting event. But hey, at least we all get to look forward to watching Alaska-Juno vs. Middle Western Valley State.

Thoughts?

I'm guessing that the NIT will start grabbing teams that would have played in the CBI haha. I feel like the whole postseason experience is about to get very watered down.
