Here is my quick opinion on Charlie Weis and his job status as the Notre Dame football coach.

Quite frankly I think he should be fired. His best two seasons were with Ty Willingham's players when he first got to Notre Dame. Now he is at 6-5 with a game against a pretty good Stanford team left. He might be 6-6 in a year when he was supposed to be contending for a BCS Bowl game.

Notre Dame's schedule was not overly difficult this year and they still have not been able to put up nine or 10 wins. Instead they have loses to Michigan (who is having their own struggles) and USC (who is having their worst season in a long time).

They have also lost their last three games; at home to Navy, on the road against No. 12 Pittsburgh, and at home against Connecticut.

Last year they finished up 6-6 and went to the Hawaii Bowl where they beat Hawaii to maintain a winning record. If they lose to Stanford they will have another chance at playing a game to end the season where they could fall below .500 for the second straight season.

All of these signs point to Weis needing to go. He even had a Heisman candidate in Jimmy Clausen leading his team at the QB position this year.

In 2007, Calusen's freshman year, Weis and Notre Dame went 3-9. The two previous season's Weis went 9-3 and 10-3 but again that was with a lot of Willingham's players.

I think now is the time to cut the ties with Weis. He has a so-so record and the program doesn't seem to be improving. It is time to move on.
