The New York Yankees dug deep and defeated Pedro Martinez and the Philadelphia Phillies in game two of the World Series 3-1 to even it up at one apiece. A.J. Burnett was the story in this one.
No, he wasn’t as dominant as Cliff Lee was in game one, but he shutdown the Phillies lineup for the most part and went seven innings, giving up only four hits and two walks. He struck out nine as well and only allowed one earned run.
His effort bridged the gap all the way to Marino Rivera which was important for the Yankees. He had to work with runners on in both innings but was able to get out without any damage.
Ryan Howard went 0-4 with four strikeouts in the game and will look to rebound from a poor start to the World Series at home in game 3 as the series shifts to Philadelphia.
Cole Hamels will go up against Andy Pettitte in that game, which will be pivotal in seeing who can jump ahead and maybe take control of the series. That game is Saturday night at 7:57 p.m. on FOX.
