The Philadelphia Phillies will head back to the World Series for a chance at defending their title because of a 10-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in game five of the NLCS.
The Phillies used four home runs including two from Jayson Werth to roll over the Dodgers in game five. Werth’s first came after Vincente Padilla walked Chase Utley and Ryan Howard and then fell behind 3-0 to Werth in the first inning. Throwing this guy a fastball is always dangerous and most of the time deadly.
Walks have been a problem for the Dodgers and in this game they had four walks and three hit batters. Philadelphia only had eight hits to score their 10 runs because of all the extra base runners the Dodgers afforded them.
Cole Hamels was not particularly strong, as he allowed three solo home runs and only went 4.1 innings.
Again the Phillies bullpen looked strong, though, as J.A. Happ and Chad Durbin combined to get Philadelphia out of the fifth inning. Durbin then worked a perfect sixth inning. Chan Ho Park worked a solid seventh inning but then allowed the first two men to hit safely in the eighth.
Ryan Madson walked the bases loaded and allowed a base hit before working out of a bases-loaded-no-out jam with only allowing one run.
Now the Phillies will look to be the first National League team to repeat as World Series champions since the Cincinnati Reds did it in 1975-76.
