So after my lengthy pre-game article got accidentally erased...I figured I'd try something new...live blogging as I watch the first game of the MLB Playoffs from wild and windy Philadelphia.
Speaking of the wind, its definitely a factor early on, as Cliff Lee makes it through an adventurous first inning. Dexter Fowler sent the first pitch of the game swirling out to the warning track for a difficult play by Jayson Werth. After a single by Carlos Gonzalez, Todd Helton hit a grounder to first and Ryan Howard hesitated while stepping on the bag then threw across his body into center field while trying to double up Gonzalez. Troy Tulowitzki managed an infield hit but Shane Victorino caught Garrett Atkins' pop-up after taking a zig-zag route to the ball.
Ubaldo Jimenez looks sharp after a 1-2-3 bottom of the first.
Looks like it will be best for Cliff Lee to avoid contact, as everything hit off him so far has sent his fielders scrambling. Jayson Werth makes a fantastic throw to nail Jorvit Torrealba trying to advance from second to third...replay might have something different to say however.
Werth follows up his defensive gem with a blazing single to left, but Jimenez gets Raul Ibanez to hit into a double play, looking in control so far.
This game could be dubbed "Adventures in the Sky"...Jimmy Rollins runs a long way to make a terrific catch in foul territory on another sky high pop-up...and Lee gets his first 1-2-3 inning.
Now the ace comes to the plate and knocks one to center for the Phillies second hit of the game. Lee has been solid with the bat for his first season pitching in the NL. And now he adds base stealing to his arsenal...taking second without drawing a throw. The umpires steal one from Colorado again...Lee got caught off second and was beat by the throw but Tulowitzki's tag was judged to be late.
